UK dance outfit Dreamhouse (Paul Barry, David Riley, and Jules Tulley) met each while working at the legendary DREAMHOUSE Studio in Kingston Upon Thames, just outside London.
Native Jamaican Riley was a remixer (who had already worked with such notables as R. Kelly and Fu Schnickens). Paul Barry was on the fast track on becoming a very accomplished song writer and musician and Jules Tulley an incredible session vocalist. The trio became a full-fledged band. On the strength of a Grass Roots song (live For Today) they included on a Best Of The British MIDEM Sampler, David Forman fell in love with their sound. It took him about a year to finally get in contact and once he heard their impromptu rendition of the Maurice Williams classic "Stay", he knew they were something special. Forman Bros. Recordings and Paul Palmer forged a term deal to license the music to Trauma Records for the USA and Canada.
While the record was beginning to take shape, Paul Barry continued to work on another project at the Dreamhouse studios which soon became a worldwide smash recording: "Believe" for CHER. |
"I will always remember hanging with Paul in a hotel in Phoenix and on his beat up old guitar, playing me a brand new song he just wrote called "Bailamos. I was great, but strange to hear Spanish out of a Scotsman. That song later became the launching record for Enrique Iglesias." Remembers David Forman. "The Pop Reggae styling of David Riley was so far ahead of his time, Shaggy scored big with the exact same sound. This album will remain a classic for me."
Dreamhouse's self-titled debut is a vibrant piece of dance that the majority of club-hoppers will undoubtedly love. Alternating between reggae-inflected originals and '90s dance remakes of '60s pop standards, Dreamhouse appears to have all the ingredients for mass dance chart success. Renowned dance mixer/band member David Riley's Jamaican roots can be detected in his rap for the leadoff single "Stay" (a huge '60s hit for Maurice Williams), as well as covers of the Four Seasons' "Sherry," the Four Tops' "Baby, I Need Your Lovin'," and the Grass Roots' "Let's Live for Today." Dreamhouse is not merely a cover band, proven by the enjoyable original tracks as "Just as Long as I Have You," "Forever," and "Hay Que Linda."
